About Starlight

Starlight was surrendered to Bluebonnet when her owner had difficulty recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Starlight competed in the Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the 2019 Bluebonnet Horse Expo and met her adopter at the event. Congratulations Starlight!

Evaluation and Training

Starlight is a big, pretty, flea-bit gray mare. She is big boned, with a deep heart girth, well-defined withers, and overall nice build. Steady in temperament, she gets along with horses of all age groups. Starlight was reported to be skittish and hard to catch, but she came around with consistent handling. She is now easy to halter, lead, and tie. The mare’s ground manners are good, and she respects a handler’s personal space. Trainer Aaron England evaluated her in May 2018. It appears she is not broke to ride, or was started poorly, and will need to be restarted. At the evaluation, if Aaron put a lot of pressure on her, she would rear out of nervousness/fear. She went to trainer Benjamin Arreguin to be started under saddle for the Spring 2019 Training Challenge. Unfortunately, she suffered a freak injury and had to pull out of the event. She healed well and there was no permanent damage so she has spent the summer and fall preparing for the Fall 2019 Training Challenge. Starlight’s trainer says she is a super sweet mare that loves attention. She can be anxious at times but if you allow her to relax and help her face her fear she will work through it. Starlight needs regular work and someone consistent as she does not do well with time off. She is very easy to ride, soft in the mouth and responds to leg pressure. She has a smooth slow trot and nice head set. She would excel in a trail or show home once she gets more exposure.
