About Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea was found estray after Hurricane Harvey. When her owners weren't found, she was placed with Bluebonnet. Sweet Tea had suffered an injury to one hip before coming to Bluebonnet which left her lightly ridable. She was adopted by a family who had adopted from Bluebonnet before – they needed a quiet horse to ride a bit during lessons and to help them gain confidence.

Evaluation and Training

Sweet Tea was evaluated by trainer Chucky Barbour in early May 2018. She ties with no issues, picks up feet w/ touch, saddles at a stand still, allows riders to mount from ground or mounting block at a stand still, walks on verbal command. Chucky also rode her bareback with no problems. She was fine being bridled and wearing a breast collar and back cinch. She is good for fly spray. She rode her at a walk on tarps, over cavalleti, and around barrels & poles. She is quiet and not spooky. Chucky could not get her to go faster than a walk. Another trainer looked at her (but did not ride her) a week later. He pointed out that one hip is dropped and has some atrophy. It likes hurs to trot or canter with a rider, so she simply refuses (she doesn't buck, kick, or get mad - she just refuses). She would be great for someone who wants to ride at a walk as she's sweet, quiet, and will go over almost anything you point her at.
