About Jenkins

Jenkins and her herdmates were removed from negligent owners and placed with BEHS. She was very food aggressive when she arrived, but her foster home worked with her and she began to calm down once she realized she would get a regular meal. Jenkins turned out to be broke to ride, and her foster home adopted her for her granddaughter to ride in July 2016. She returned Jenkins when she had to move out of state (2018). Jenkins competed in the 2018 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo. She met her adopter at the Expo. Congrats Jenkins!

Evaluation and Training

Jenkins leads, loads, tries, trims, clips, bathes and catches easily. She is very sweet with people. You can be in the stall with her at feeding time and pick up all her feet, spray for flies, groom, etc. She stands for saddling & lunges, and it appears that she has had lots of handling in a former life. Jenkins was ridden by her adopter and her adopter’s granddaughter in clinics, in arenas, and on trails. She is well broke to ride, but she is also an older mare who doesn’t always listen to a timid or beginner rider. She has some experienced some hind-end weakness (summer 2018) and was treated for EPM-like symptoms. She should be limited to light to moderate riding – although she may be able to do more as she rebuilds muscle with exercise. She could be a fine light riding trail horse/obstacle horse for someone or a pleasure horse.
