About Blake

Blake was seized by animal control officers after being cruelly treated or abandoned. He was cared for by animal control and later turned over the care of BEHS. Blake was 6th in the professional division of the 2016 Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge and was adopted at the event.

Evaluation and Training

Blake is easy to catch, halter, lead, and load. He stands for farrier work, grooming, saddling and bridling. His trainer, Katie Kettenhagen, says he is one of the quietest/least spooky horses she's been around. She's done a lot of desensitization work with him, and nothing has bothered him. He is going great under saddle, walk trot and canter. He has an awesome natural slow jog, and smooth lope. Even after having two weeks off, Katie got back on and he was like he never missed a day. He is clumsy, so jumping or even ground poles are tricky for him. He'll go over them no problem, just not gracefully. He'll make an awesome western and/or huntseat horse. And he is definitely quiet enough to be a great trail horse. Katie has not shown him, but she took him along to a show and he stood tied to the trailer alone for 3+ hours and never whinnied or pawed. He is just super easy! Blake competed with trainer Jere Johnson in the professional division of the Bluebonnet Horse Expo on October 17, 2015.
