About Abe

Abe’s donor rescued him after he had been neglected and abandoned at a boarding stable. He is a handsome gelding! He does well in a stall or pasture, although in pasture he is initially very submissive (he gains confidence as he settles in). When he first arrived, he was very withdrawn but has become more animated and interested. He’s still gaining weight, so his foster home has not yet ridden him. He has very prominent withers and no topline at this time, so saddle fit is going to be an issue for him.

Evaluation and Training

Abe’s donor said he was formerly trained for dressage and jumping. He is good to catch, lead, and load. He stands tied for grooming, farrier work, saddling, and bridling. He longes well and will work in hand. Abe’s foster home began riding him and determined he is rusty and out of shape, so he needs someone who can slowly bring him back to work and rebuild muscles. He will test new riders to see if they can ride: with new riders he paws and balks but will work better once pushed forward. He could really make an intermediate or above rider a nice horse and could still be shown or ridden for pleasure.
