Competition events include a play day, horse show, and ride-a-thon

(ELGIN, TX | April 28, 2018) – The Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) will participate in the fifth annual ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) “Help a Horse” competition, a nationwide competition for horse rescue groups to raise awareness and funds for the important work they do. The competition starts April 28 and runs for two months, and winners are eligible for grant prizes totaling $110,000. Winners are picked based on the number of adoptions secured, donations received, an adoption video, and an adoption campaign.

BEHS will kick off this year’s “Help a Horse” competition on Saturday, April 28 with a play day at Texas Lost Pines Riding Club in Elgin. The play day will include speed and agility events, a rescue horse freestyle competition, a silent auction, vendors and shopping, and horse adoptions. Events begin at 9:30 AM and admission is free.

Other planned competition events include a horse show at the Jim A Dee Arena in Sanger, and a ride-a-thon that anyone can enter, regardless of location, as long as they have a horse they can ride or drive. Once ride-a-thon participants sign up with BEHS, they work to secure sponsorships, or funds, for each ride or drive they log from May 1 to June 15. Sponsorships are turned in to BEHS by June 30, and will help support horses in need. BEHS will be giving out prizes for most rides logged, most time spent riding, and most sponsorship dollars raised.

BEHS is a 501(c)(3) equine welfare and protection organization that operates throughout Texas. Founded in 2005 by a group of horse enthusiasts, BEHS primarily works with law enforcement agencies to take in abused, neglected, estray, and abandoned horses. Rescued horses are placed in foster homes where they are rehabilitated by experienced horseman and professional trainers until they are healthy and ready for adoption to loving homes. BEHS achieves its mission through the generosity and support from fosters, donors, and volunteers.
