Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society Works with Local Veterinarian to Help Equine Victims of Hurricane Harvey and their Owners

(Galveston County, Texas; September 1, 2017)  Although rescue efforts for horses and other livestock are still underway in parts of Texas and Louisiana, many horse owners have begun the long task of property damage assessment, clean-up, and rebuilding.

This process could last well over a year for many horse owners, and in the meantime they still have horses and other livestock to care for, feed, and house.  Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society has partnered with local equine veterinarian Kris Anderson DVM to collect and distribute donation hay, grain, and supplies to horse owners in need.

Donations can be brought to the Galveston County Fairgrounds at 10 Jack Brooks Road in Hitchcock, Texas, enter at gate 15.  To make donation arrangements outside those hours or for questions about donating items, please call 832-425-1270 or 409-770-4171.

Tax-deductible donations are accepted from 9am-5pm daily.  Monetary donations may be made to Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society at PO Box 632, College Station, TX 77841.

Horse owners who suffered property damage during Hurricane Harvey may come to the Galveston County Fairgrounds gate 15 between 9am and 5pm to receive donated items.  Owners receiving donations will be required to sign in and supplies will be disbursed based on the number of horses and other livestock owned.

Additionally, Dr. Anderson is working to get donated veterinary supplies to treat horses that were injured in the floods.  To make donations of medical supplies, call Dr.Anderson at 409-974-0060.  For horse owners, Dr. Anderson says, “Please do not let financial limitations prevent you from seeking care for your horses that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey.  I’m working hard to minimize costs to horse owners as much as possible.”

Jennifer Williams, PhD is the Executive Director of Bluebonnet Equine Humane and adds, “We do not want any horse owners to give up their horses because they’ve suffered property loss due to Harvey.  Our goal is to work with Dr. Anderson to collect donations that can be used to help horse owners care for their animals while they rebuild and recover.  If there are horse owners who are unable to keep their horses, even with assistance, they can contact us at Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society and we may be able to give their horses a home.”

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society is a non-profit, equine welfare organization dedicated to helping the horses of Texas.  For more information, contact the organization at info@bluebonnetequine.org or (888) 542 5163 or visit their website at http://www.bluebonnetequine.org.
