(Rosharon, Texas: June 1, 2007) Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) President Dr. Jennifer Williams announced “Bluebonnet Adoption Days”, the first annual Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society adoption drive, from June 15 to July 15, 2007. “Our goal is to find loving, permanent adoptive homes for our horses,” commented Dr. Williams, “and we hope that by making this an event we can raise awareness about the value of adopted horses.”

In two years of operation, the organization has taken in almost two hundred horses but nearly one hundred of those horses are still in foster homes. While not all of the horses are yet ready for adoption, many are. “We have horses, donkeys and mules up for adoption. Some are broke to ride and many others are ready to start training. We’ve got horses who could be shown, pleasure ridden or trail ridden. If you are looking for a horse, consider one of ours!” remarked Randi Smith, Adoption Coordinator for Bluebonnet. Smith added that the organization has had horses adopted as kids and beginner’s mounts, and adopted horses are being shown and competing in endurance.

In an effort to increase the number of horses adopted during Bluebonnet Adoption Days, the organization is offering half-price adoption fees to anyone who applies to adopt between June 15 and July 15 and adopts their equines within 30 days. Williams said that they hope the half-price adoption fees will help encourage potential adopters to go adopt and become part of the Bluebonnet Family by adopting a horse.
