Policy

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, Inc.’s (BEHS) policy on influencing legislation conforms to the organization’s role as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code, and as such, the organization’s Directors and members must similarly conform to the IRS’s restrictions on such activity.

Procedure

At no time will Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society or any of its Directors or members on behalf of the organization endorse any candidate for any elected office.  Also, the organization will not make any contributions to any political campaign for office, nor to any party, nor to any political action committee.

However, inasmuch as the activity described is permitted by law, Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society may publish a position paper in printed or electronic form which describes the stance of the organization toward active or pending legislation.  Also, the organization may inform candidates or elected officials of its position on issues and urge them to support its interests.  The organization may also note the stance of elected officials and candidates on issues of interest to the organization.

Lastly, the organization or its members may post information about pending or active legislation for the information of other members; however, these posts must not suggest or demand action from the recipients.
